We believe in building an end-to-end product. So when we discovered that there was no viable low cost digitisation solution available for a slide under a microscope, we built one ourselves! The first version was robotic attachments on a regular light microscope with a smartphone mounted on its eye-piece which controls the autoscan algorithm, movement of the microscope stage and focus. So now a single low cost digitisation solution enabled all of our pathology use cases – Shonit, Aadi and Shrava.

The second version of the device is being worked on which apart from improving the performance and speed of autoscan, will also have an aesthetical finish.

We’re working on complex research problems in image processing, computer vision and artificial intelligence, specifically recent advances in deep learning. Cutting edge research in artificial intelligence is not something that the Indian startup ecosystem is generally known for. We still look up to the west for ushering in the technological breakthroughs, which we then happily adopt. At SigTuple, our aim is to change that and make advanced research the engine of our growth.

We realised very early in our journey that the platform we needed to achieve our vision did not exist at all, in whole or in part, in spite of the recent proliferation of numerous AI platforms by big and small players. Thus Manthana was created, from grounds-up, to be a continuously improving, automatically upgrading platform which enables digitisation, management and analysis of visual medical data, trains various kinds of AI models on it, and provides an insightful, interactive report to medical specialists.
